Hai by Goga by Bradley Turley

Tuna Edamame & Potato Salad - enoki and golden thread mushrooms, wasabi aioli ¥150


Just realised that I never actually published this and didn't quite finish either anyways the food is delicious so here is what I have written. I am off to Shanghai on Wednesday and looking forward to my next meal at Hai by Goga which is just around the corner from my hotel.



Hai by Goga is located on the 7th floor of the Shanghai Education hotel the entrance is a bit dreary but once arrived on the 7th floor it boasts skyline views of Shanghai from either the terrace or glass enclosed dining room.  The chef Brad Turley comes from the San Francisco bay area he has worked in kitchens in Hawaii, New York and Ho Chi Minh City. Goga was founded in May 2010 and since then one a range of awards including Conde Naste Travel and Leisure restaurant of the year.

Walking into Hai we headed straight for the bar, Brad was behind the bar trying out new cocktails for the month... Something I figured I could could help with even though we had never been introduced and I was correct!

But first we ordered a bunch of small plates and oysters to start. I asked where are the oysters from they look familiar? Fanny bay, seriously that's in front of my families beach house on Denman island in BC... Random other side of the world and I am eating the oysters that I wonder down to the beach and pick up and shuck. Anyways they were awesome, little taste of canada in Shanghai!

Next we tucked into some panko coated fried prawns on a mango chili sauce.

Then the salad, not just any salad crispy matchsticks potatoes, enoki mushrooms seared tuna with a spicy hit of wasabi aioli on top!

Then Vietnamese Ceviche with fried shallots, crushed cashews and chili salt which adds a crispy spicy bite.

Then one of my favourites Chicken Mole Tacos with mole sauce and salsa.
